Even more good news!! As many of you already know from viewing
our web site or from Facebook, we have announced our sailing date and
itinerary for 2010. We set sail from Genoa/Savona, Italy on October 19,
2010 to the Iberian Peninsula. It is sure to be a very
different adventure from any of our previous trips in part because we are
sailing on a ship with a very European (by the way Italians like to dance!)
influence and in another way – this itinerary offers so many
previously unexplored ports by the Cruise Trek family. Plus, we will have
an absolute ton of options to see many different cultural and historical sites
on this “Mediterranean Gateway” cruise. I hope you like
the idea of exploring these amazing ports as much as I do. Genoa and
nearby Portofino are filled with the essence of Italy. From there we sail
to Malaga, Spain; Casablanca, Morocco; Cadiz, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal;
Valencia, Spain and to Barcelona, Spain.
Now if the above was simply not enough to inspire the travel bug in you
then maybe the following will help more to do so – and so here is a
little description for Genoa that I swiped from a travel site:
As Dickens wrote in 1843:
I would never have thought that I would have become
attached to the stones of the Genoan streets, and to think of the city with
affection, as the place in which I had spent many hours of peace and
happiness. It is easy to be enraptured by the maze of narrow streets in the
historic centre. Refined palaces are side by side with humble houses, which
in the historic centre, are all close to the beautiful churches of the city, which
have austere, black and white striped, marble facades or opulent, baroque
architecture. Genoa has a secret beauty that can be found in its daring
architecture, traces of splendid frescoes and imposing, noble
palaces.
Beginning in Strada Nuova, now known as Via
Garibaldi, this is a visible sign of the historic period of the seventeenth
century, when the great, Genovese families were at their richest. This is a
unique street because of the urban planning that it has inspired and the
number of palaces here and their beauty. Visitors can enter the internal
gardens and see the frescoes in the great salons. Some of these buildings
are now museums and are home to works of art by Genovese artist and
the great, Flemish school, such as the Galleria di Palazzo Bianco and the
Galleria di Palazzo Rosso.
In addition to the great ports mentioned above you could also visit Cinque
Terre which is just about 1.5 hours by train from Genoa – talk about
spectacular! And then there is the opportunity to take a shore excursion to
Marrakesh from the port of Casablanca. As usual, you?ll be able to sign up for
Shore Excursions prior to the cruise and for the more adventurous of you
– there is always the option of doing your or our own CT tour. In fact,
we already have a CT family member that has volunteered a walking tour in
Barcelona for us. Also, some of you will be very pleased to know that we will
be back doing our Cruise Trek group dining and this will be set for the early
seating time of 7:00pm.
Again, although airfares may look difficult at first glance – they
are not; you can connect into Genoa or Milan and further your adventure by
taking a train to Genoa; transfers to/from the ship will be available by the
cruise line on the day of embarkation and disembarkation; and hotels are
plentiful. In fact, the cruise line has hotel rates of approximately $89pp per night
including tax and breakfast. So, all accommodations are easy to arrange and if
you need more help with these or any issues – please contact us.
One tip: travel light – over the years I have learned to do this more
and more – gosh, it makes the trip so much easier and well, in the style
of a European!
Best and most adventurous of travels wherever and whenever,
Charlie . . .
Oh yeah – I’ll be out of the office Oct 13-28, 2009,
checking out all our ports for next year!

Update – July 4, 2009:
Hey there!!
Hope your summer so far is beautiful!
I just wanted to let you that I am working with a couple cruise lines on
our adventure for next year. If all comes to fruition as I am preliminarily
designing, it is sure to be another adventure to boldly explore where we
have not been before. One tidbit I can share at this time is that I am hoping
for October 2010.
~ Do You Need Travel Insurance? ~
One option is Trip Insurance.
There are other choices, but we offer
Travel Guard for informational purposes.
As a side note – I have to stress a very large thank you to all of
you and your adventurous spirits as you all allow me to explore and
experience with you so much more than I ever would have been able. :))))
With the above in mind, I have to share a paragraph I read recently in a
business book by Steve Berges:
The Capacity to Dream [or in our vernacular to
Explore]
“. . . all time favorite quotes is by Zig Ziglar. ‘. . . Go as far
as you can see, and when you get there, you can always see farther.’
Take just a Moment to ponder this dynamic assertion. Although it is simplistic in
structure, it is profound in meaning. Imagine traveling on a ship across the ocean
and looking out across the vast expanse of water to the point where the sky
meets the water. It is what is referred to as the horizon. In this example, if you
‘go as far as you can see,’ you will travel closer to that point
beyond where you first saw it; hence ‘when you get there, you can
always see farther.’ If we can but embrace this simple principle, our
capacity . . . will be greatly enlarged.”
We can certainly apply this uplifting thought to our adventures in travel,
the different people(s) we meet and to life in general . . .
Thank you for all your wonderful notes and emails regarding our
“Back to Bermuda” event. And one huge heartfelt thanks goes
to all of you at our Bon Voyage Dinner for letting me share a little of my world
and a little time with my uncle whom I had not seen in 25 years. That, I will
always remember, treasure and admire.
So, please stay attuned to our web site for announcements on our 2010
adventure.
Trenton – we are very glad you are feel’n better! Sorry
to have missed you!!
Best of sailing always,
Charlie
